When: Thu., Feb. 25, 7-8:15 p.m. 2016
John E. Norvell, a former Air Force Lt. Col. and Assistant Professor of Military History at the Air Force Academy, will discuss 19th Century warfare through the eyes of his great grandfather, Freeman Norvell (1827-1881), who was a Marine in Mexico, a Colonel in the Civil War, and resigned his commission due to alcohol related PTSD. Norvell survived the war, as did his 5 brothers who also fought, but the war was never far from them. The adventure of war gave way to the realities of death and destruction.
