Pullman Memorial Universalist Church, 10 E. Park St., Albion. Dennis and Janet Seekins, proprietors of Quiet Friends books in Lyndonville, New York, will offer a series of antique book appraisal talks and free book appraisals during Pullman Memorial Universalist Church's annual book sale. A selection of antique and rare books and pre-1900 maps and prints will be exhibited. Some will be offered for sale to benefit Pullman Memorial's roof repair fund. This series of appraisal talks should interest book collectors and book enthusiasts of all types. Dennis and Jan's book talks will cover topics such as "What makes books valuable, and identifying first editions" (11 am to noon both days, Friday June 7 & Saturday June 8), "Appraising important literary works; Twain, Hemingway, Faulkner, and others" (Sat. 1 am to 2 pm), "Appraising books that altered the course of history; Darwin, Galileo, Newton, Luther's Bible, the Saint James Bible, Freud, Einstein, and more" (Sat. 3 pm to 4 pm), and "Appraising 'art' books; fine bindings, prints, maps, and limited edition books containing original artwork and other forms of illustration before photography." (Sat. 5 pm to 6 pm). Dennis is originally from Orleans County and Janet is from the Philadelphia area. Dennis was an active cave explorer and still is an avid white water canoeist. Janet is a gardener and kayaker who likes riding Lake Ontario's waves. After retiring, the Seekins turned their love of the outdoors, books and reading into a vintage, antique, and rare book business, with an emphasis on adventure narratives. All proceeds of the book sale will benefit Pullman's roof repair fund.
