ROCKABILLY | Heavy Trash

If you really want to know why rock 'n' roll is such a turn-on for guys like Heavy Trash's Jon Spencer (Blues Explosion) and Matt Verta-Ray (Speedball Baby) — if you really want to get right down to what delivers the shivers and the squeal appeal — you're gonna have to get past the luster and glow and the haircuts; past the thrash, twang, and thunder. You'll have to strip way down and dig deep beyond the bones to find its primal seed. You're gonna have to go see Heavy Trash. Celebrating 10 years together, Heavy Trash is a rockabilly duo in the classic sense of the term. And yet, by writing originals and focusing on the soul of the music and not its coiffured confines, the true grit prevails. Heavy Trash is more about the spark than the flame and is one of the best rock 'n' roll bands in the history of music ever. Think I'm full of crap? Talk to me after the show. Canadian one-madman-band, Bloodshot Bill opens. Hell, I'm going twice.

Heavy Trash with Bloodshot Bill plays Thursday, October 16, at Water Street Music Hall, 204 North Water Street. 8 p.m. $10-$15.;
