ROCK | Dance Gavin Dance

by

Most categorize Dance Gavin Dance as post-hardcore, but the band has really transcended that label since starting 10 years ago. What sets DGD apart are two things: their unprecedented musicianship and the prowess of their vocalists. Any connoisseur of progressive music, or even jazz, can appreciate the talent and the subtle moments that guitarist Will Swan, bassist Tim Feerick, and drummer Matt Mingus incorporate into their punk rock. And from their earliest incarnation with soul vocalist extraordinaire Jonny Craig to today's clean vocalist Tilian Pearson, the melodies and skill these guys bring to the table is something to behold. Top that off with harsh vocalist Jon Mess as the rock that has held this band together over many years and you have a band that is doing something on its latest tour that is special.

Dance Gavin Dance plays with Slaves, A Lot Like Birds, Dayshell, and Strawberry Girls on Wednesday, November 25, at Montage Music Hall, 50 Chestnut Street. themontagemusichall.com; facebook.com/dancegavindance.
