GRINDCORE | Aborted

by

While metal is a genre that's as susceptible to trends as any other one, it's fair to say that its legions upon legions of fans value consistency the most. Bands that are able to trade on and expand upon a single gimmick for decades are often viewed as heroes of the scene writ large. And as far as technical grindcore goes, Belgium's Aborted might as well be the Black Sabbath of the subgenre. With intercontinental membership and a boundless affection for all things B-horror and gore related, Aborted has waved the "goregrind" banner high and proud since 1995 and shows no sign of stopping. Its most recent record, 2016's "Retrogore," is another peerless exercise in mind-bending riffs and Lynchian body horror — just what the doctor ordered.

Aborted will play with Psycroptic and Gutted Alive on Monday, May 28, at Flour City Station, 170 East Avenue. 7 p.m. $13-$15. 21 and older show. flourcitystation.com; facebook.com/Abortedofficial.
