CLASSICAL | Mozart's "The Impresario"

If you've been wondering how the former First Church of Christ, Scientist building at East Avenue and Prince Street will work out as an opera house, Rochester Lyric Opera is offering you your chance to find out this Friday — and the chance to hear some choice operatic Mozart as well. Following a gala opening reception celebrating the company's 10th anniversary, RLO presents Mozart's one-act "The Impresario" in the new Lyric Theatre. This unassuming trifle about an impresario's run-ins with two dueling divas has a slight story but some brilliant music from Mozart, beginning with one of his most effervescent overtures and including two contrasting arias for the divas, heavy on the high notes and trills. On the (correct) assumption that there really can't be too much Mozart, RLO fills out the evening with scenes from "Le nozze di Figaro" and "Così fan tutte." Singers include sopranos Susan Delly Cotroneo and Brittany Mrucek; mezzo Allyn Van Dusen; tenor Grant Knox; and baritone Mitchell Hutchings. Lindsay Warren Baker is stage director and Eric Townell is the music director.

Rochester Lyric Opera will present Mozart's "The Impresario" on Friday, August 28, at Lyric Theatre, 440 East Avenue. 8 p.m., reception at 6:30 p.m. $25-$35.
