Album review: 'If You Only Knew'

by

The boys and girls in Rochester's indie-pop darling The Demos have taken their incredible grasp of songwriting out of its comfy place and blown it up and way out."If You Only Knew," the band's brand-new EP, is epic. It isn't out of place, but rather out of time. Just try and pinpoint everything you're hearing on the first few spins, as the songs rain down like confetti. It's as if Prince got ahold of The Old 97s, kept the instrumental pop appeal and clever lyrical innocence, but plugged it in and tweaked the electricity. This way the music gets buried further in the listener's skull. Nothing's changed in the harmony department, with the whole band adding to the 5-part vocal dessert initiated by some keen synth pop 'n' slide. Right on.
