Corn Hill Arts Festival releases 2017 poster

The Corn Hill Neighbors Association and ESL Federal Credit Union on Friday unveiled the 2017 Corn Hill Arts Festival poster created by artist Ryan Martin. For the 49th annual event’s poster design, Martin explained that he used a “broad color scheme” to reflect Rochester’s unique “energy and history.”

The poster itself has an Impressionistic style, with streaky and blurred blues, pinks, purples, combined with more neutral strokes. It’s a modern take on the more traditional-looking homes that make up the Corn Hill neighborhood. The piece will also be featured on festival merchandise.

A 2010 Webster Schroeder graduate, Martin said he was born into a “creative family” and chose to pursue his artistic interests in college -- he graduated from Providence College in 2014 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Studio Art, concentrating in painting. Since then, he has returned to Rochester and is primarily involved with creating designer clothing. At the poster unveiling event, Martin pointed out the white flame designs on his shoes which he had painted himself. He explained that he had just begun to work on this pair, but by the time he’s done with them, the shoes will be completely “tricked out.”

The 2017 Corn Hill Arts Festival takes place Saturday, July 8, and Sunday, July 9, in the Corn Hill Neighborhood. For more information, check out And for more of Martin’s work, go to his website,
